Will Carlton Be Opening The Bubbles At Cowes?

John Moore on 14th August 2019

Richard Carlton currently leads the 2019 Offshore 1 UKOPRA World Championship and needs a good result at the Cowes Torquay Cowes on Sunday, August 25th if he is going to win the title.

Carlton with his crew of Phil and Neil Payter have been consistent in their ‘Bubbledeck’ Cigarette with a third at the Poole Bay 100 and a second place in Guernsey.

However, it will be a ‘tall order’ for the team as the competition in the world’s most famous offshore powerboat race is tough.

‘Bubbledeck’ leads with 525 points, just behind are Drew Langdon and Miles Jennings in Silverline Bullet with 495.

The new team this season of Andy, Dan & Matt Smith and Jack Weller have clocked up 469 in their FB Design RIB.

Mathematically it is still possible for the Italian Tommy Team and Dry Martini to take the UKOPRA Championship at Cowes.

Maurizio Schepici’s Seatek powered Metamarine srl hull is on 400, due to his win in Poole back in June, while Christian Toll, Mike Bontoft and Michael Peet have earned 394 points.

There is no better race than the 179.5 nm Cowes Torquay Cowes race to end a hard fought world championship on, with the worthy winners to be crowned as World Champions in The Royal Yacht Squadron on the Sunday evening.
