Late last month, Keith Whittle woke up to the news that Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) had ceased production of its Evinrude E-TEC and E-TEC G2 outboard engines.
Whittle’s Powertech Marine, based on the south coast of England was the largest Evinrude dealer in the United Kingdom, furthermore the UIM F2 World Speed record holder had a history with the brand stretching back over many years.
Even now he is still shocked:
I had Evinrude written through me like a stick of rock!
After visiting the BRP headquarters, last year I flew home full of excitement, the company were working on some really interesting new projects, I had hoped one of them would include racing.
To survive in business you have react quickly and Whittle has announced today:
I’m pleased to say that we are now a full Mercury dealer with E P Barrus as our distributor which will complement our existing Mercury Racing partnership.
Having engineered Mercury motors at the very highest levels of the sport for Andy Elliot in F1H2o and for his son Sam in UIM F4 and F2, Whittle should find the transition a breeze.
John raced Offshore UIM Class 3 in the 1980’s & 1990’s.
He served as the Cowes Torquay Cowes Event Director for 4 years, including running the 50 th Anniversary Event in 2010.
He has recently organised 4 British Offshore races under UKOPRA sanction.
