Dubai’s Victory Team will start a brand-new era in its illustrious history with the launch of a first-ever marine sports academy with an eye on the future.
HE Huraiz Al Mur Bin Huraiz, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Victory Team was joined by board members Mohammed Al Mutawei and Ghanim Al Marri at the official unveiling of two young drivers who will constitute the first of two students.
The first students – Suhail Rashed Al Tayer and Hamdan Saeed Al Harbi – will be pruned to eventually make their cut into the Victory Team fold in the near future. But for now, the trio will start with the opening round of the 2019 UAE Aquabike Championship that is slated to take off at the Mercato Beach in Jumeirah on January 12.
Bin Huraiz said at the official unveiling ceremony:
At Victory Team we are constantly innovating and seeking ways and means to give ourselves a right direction as laid down by our wise leadership in achieving global successes
He then added:
We have always firmly believed in the potential of Victory Team and its role as a true global ambassador for Dubai and the UAE. And today we want to start with the academy to prepare young drivers, who will in the long run be part of the lofty ambitions laid down by a world entity like Victory Team
Victory Team made their offshore powerboat racing debut in 1986, but it wasn’t until 1990 that it began to build its own boat. The team debuted as a guest entry during the final two rounds of the Class 1 World Championship in 1992 while taking the top two spots in both races.
Since then, Victory Team has become an international brand while winning an amazing 14 Class 1 World Championships and seven Middle East Championships among others, making them one of the most successful teams in offshore powerboat racing.
Bin Huraiz noted:
We need to look at the future of the team, and the best way to do this is to bring in the youngsters who will be in a position to carry forward the ambitions of Victory Team
He then concluded:
This academy is just the start of many big things to come in the future. These two youngsters signify an important start for Victory and our ambitions for the future.
I am confident that this academy will witness a growth in the near future with our ultimate aim being to tap a whole range of young drivers who will proudly wear the Victory team overalls around the globe
