The Government of Dubai owned Victory Team is to come under the control of the Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC).
The team that has been government owned since it made its offshore powerboat racing debut in 1986, will now have its ownership transferred to the DIMC after a decree was issued by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, (Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai).
The decree states that:
All functions, responsibilities, assets, funds and employees of the Victory Team establishment will be transferred to the DIMC.
Additionally, all rules, policies and regulations that DIMC operates under will now be applied to the Victory Team establishment.
Subsequently, DIMC will hold all the rights and obligations of the Victory Team establishment.
In accordance with the decree:
The Dubai Government or Dubai Sports Council shall not be held responsible for any liabilities of the Victory Team establishment and DIMC will be solely responsible for such liabilities.
The Board of DIMC will manage all liabilities incurred prior to the issuance of this Decree.
Victory have been one of the most successful teams in offshore racing over the last 20 years or so and are now trying to replicate that winning formula in circuit racing.
They are also leading the Ski Division in the 2019 UIM-ABP Aquabike World Championship and recently set-up the Victory Team Academy to train local talent between the ages of 8 – 15 years old with the aim of competing on the international stage.
John raced Offshore UIM Class 3 in the 1980’s & 1990’s.
He served as the Cowes Torquay Cowes Event Director for 4 years, including running the 50 th Anniversary Event in 2010.
He has recently organised 4 British Offshore races under UKOPRA sanction.
