UIM F2 – How will the 2018 Championship be structured?

John Moore on 14th March 2018

Fresh after posting the revised UIM F2 World Championship calendar this morning, I have been reminded of the ‘elephant in the room’ – How does a venue accommodate up to 40 boats?

UIM F2 has attracted a pleasing number of boat registrations this year, it has also become a true ‘World’ Championship with Dubai’s Victory Team entering a 2 boat team for the first time and competitors from Australia and the USA joining the fray.

However, with a UIM Course Approval for only 16 boats allowed to race at Tonsberg, Norway for example, plenty of drivers will have to travel home without having competed in a race.

One suggestion that I heard recently was that on the Sunday there should be 2 races.

Race A and Race B.

If you qualify in the top 16 on the Saturday you go through to Race A.

Race B will be for competitors that qualified 17th and lower.

Points System

Race A

1=25 points

2=24

3=23

4=22

5=21

6=20

7=19

8=18

9=17

10=16

11=15

12=14

13=13

14=12

15=11

16=10

Race B

1=9 points

2=8

3=7

4=6

5=5

6=4

7=3

6=2

7=1

Using the above system, the need for a repechage is negated.

It seems sensible and I’m sure the F2 Teams Association will come up with a solution to allow all the drivers to see the start lights this season.
