Albert Leon has written a movie script with the working title of Thunderboat Row, Chris Sablan’s management and production company, Avenue 220, are now looking to sell it.
The brief synopsis that is being punted around Hollywood:
Set in the thrilling and dangerous world of powerboat racing, a hotshot Latinx racer with a checkered past teams up with the girl he once let get away in order to make a run at an offshore world championship, but their success will hinge on them putting the past behind them, and having the racer pay a heavy price for a recent run-in with the law which now threatens to send him to prison.
The last film that featured powerboat racing, Speed Kills in 2018, featured John Travolta’s portrayal of Ben Aronoff, a thinly-veiled version of Cigarette founder Don Aronow.
It certainly didn’t hit the spot with the critics, Speed Kills received a 0% rating on the review-aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes, although the audience score of 28% perhaps gave hope that there is a market for another movie based on offshore racing.
