The RYA falls into line with the UIM

Last month, Powerboat Racing World reported that the UIM had taken heed of the EU’s Vestager rules on anti-competitive practices.

The International Governing Body suspended Art 3.2.6, Art. 104 and Art. 109.06 on Friday, 16th March at their Council Meeting in Monaco.

This allows competitors to take part in races not sanctioned by the UIM or their National Authorities, the ruling also applies to race officials.

Today, the RYA have signalled in a bulletin that:

The UIM have recently announced that they have temporarily suspended their rules in relation to the penalisation of competitors and officials participating in unauthorised events:

This action has been taken in light of the recent European commission decision regarding the application of similar rules in the International Skating Union.

As a result, rules B18 & P1 of the RYA PB1 Rules & C17 & E58 of the RYA PB2 rules are accordingly also temporarily suspended, pending further information from the UIM.

The matter is also being discussed by the PBRC with regards to the implications on procedures in the UK.

More information will be published as it becomes available.

Should you have any questions or queries in relation to this matter, please contact your club representative or the powerboat racing department.
