The new UIM F2 Champion Comparato talks to PRW

John Moore on 10th October 2018

After Alberto Comparato had been confirmed as the 2018 UIM F2 World Champion this afternoon, I spoke to him about his season.

Is this a bitter sweet Championship win for you Alberto?

To be honest, it’s a dream to win the F2 title!

My father and I have worked hard for the last 3 years with many test lapsand finally we have made it.

Of course it would have been better to know this at a race weekend, but only one Italian driver has won the F2 World title before me and that was my father in Corfu 2001 – 17 years ago!

I remember that you started testing for this season very early, in fact before last Christmas! Did you feel before the first race in Lithuania that your preparation was on track?

Yes, we started just after Ribadouro race last year , I know I could win, I just couldn’t afford to make any mistakes in the racing weekend.
I actually completed over 1500 laps this winter on my boat!

Winning 2 races in any top Formula class is impressive, what was the toughest win, Lithuania or in Norway?

The toughest win was in Norway , I wanted to win there so much , as everyone know it’s my favourite race weekend , I didn’t think about the championship but just went for the win there.

To win a UIM F2 World Championship is amazing, but as you reminded me in Norway you were only 20 years of age during the 2018 racing season!

What’s next for you?

I will start training very soon for 2019 – Now I want to enjoy my win!

Thanks Alberto and Congratulations.
