It’s that time of year again when organisers of the various International Powerboat Racing disciplines announce their 2017 dates and others are still working hard to finalise their calendars.
UIM Class 1
The 2016 UIM Class 1 World Championship was held and supported by the Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club (ADIMSC) and competed for last week with Victory 3 taking the overall win.
As I first reported on the 10th September on here <Link>, ADIMSC’s Saif Alqamzi told me in France;
Our commitment to a UIM Class 1 World Championship will extend to at least 2017.
UIM XCAT Racing
The WPPA has already commenced discussions with various venues predominantly in Europe to firm up their calendar for 2017.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the World Professional Powerboating Association (WPPA), Ali Bin Hendi recently <Link> expanded on those future plans.
UIM Marathon Racing
The British Powerboat Racing Club (BPRC) have announced the date of the Cowes Classic 2017.
27th of August next year will mark the 57th time competitors have left the Isle of Wight to do battle in the ‘Grandaddy’ of all Offshore races.
UIM Class 3 A & B World Championships
The Channel Island of Guernsey are already looking forward to a large entry for this event <link> which will run from the 4th to 10th of September 2017.
The F2 Team Association posted their latest intended schedule of races earlier this week.
The UIM F2 Series includes Lithuania, Switzerland, Belgium, Norway, Portugal and Turkey for next year’s World Championship.
Whilst the countries of Lithuania, Switzerland and Portugal are fairly well known to the Series, Turkey with its current political problems under the rule of President Erdoğan could present a challenge for the final Championship race.
Frode Sundsdal’s Tønsberg Båtrace in Norway has become a firm favourite with UIM F2 racers and spectators alike in the last couple of seasons and he told me tonight;
Expect the same and better for next year!
We have had an excellent UIM Commissioners report for our 2016 race.
We will not rest on our laurels.
For 2017, we will not only have a new and faster course for the UIM F2 racers, my team is engaging with the town of Tønsberg to add music concerts, involve our children in the Event and make our date in August an annual tradition here in Norway.
Let me know if I have missed out any International Events for next year that you would like to be covered on here.
Next week I will be featuring the 2017 British powerboat racing Offshore and Circuit calendar.
