Hector and Icar Sanz Lopez with Sergio Pereira and Cristian Ortega have formed a Spanish team that have designed and built a boat to comply with the UIM GT 60 rules.
The brothers from the Catalan village of Riba Roja d’Ebre have manufactured the SPO (Sanz Pereira Ortega) GT-60 to be powered by Mercury Racing’s four stroke 60 EFI FormulaRace outboard.
The boat’s length is 5 meters with a 2 meter width and weighs 260 kg without the driver and is constructed from carbon Kevlar.
The project was started a year ago when the hull was drawn up using 3D CAD design software.
The team then built a wooden model which has acted as a plug to make the SPO GT-60 moulds from.
With the first test of the boat completed last week, it is hoped that there will be three to four races in Spain next year, with the first competition to be held over the weekend of 19-20 December this year in the village of Arcos de la Frontera in Andalusia.
