A shortened Skagerak Across is won by Mikko Oikari

John Moore on 10th July 2016

Mikko Oikari driving his quadruple FPT powered Outerlimits – Going Lean, was victorious in the 2016 Skagerak Across yesterday.

Oikari, no stranger to UIM Marathon racing, having competed in the 2008 Round Britain Race, won a shortened race with co-driver Lars Eriksson.

The team from Sweden were racing a hull that was built in 2010 for Dean Gibbs.

Having witnessed the huge seas between Norway and Denmark from a ColorLine Ferry the other afternoon, I wasn’t surprised to see the racers turned back home half way to Denmark.

Norwegian Karl Rasmussen took the runners up spot, whilst Jean-Pierre Neels and Thomas Vandamme from Belgium, steered their FB Design RIB to third.

The Belgium RIB is already entered for the 2016 Cowes Torquay Cowes, the question now is, will Oikari be up for making it a Skagerak / Cowes double?
