Maurizio Schepici, the Italian offshore racer who competed in the British UKOPRA series last season, has made a substantial donation of face masks to the police in the Fiumicino area as a gesture of solidarity to help against the fight of COVID-19.
He told me this afternoon:
The police have always been at the forefront of enforcing the law and public order.
Today they are facing harder challenges while still helping to enforce the extraordinary laws imposed because of the pandemic.
They are in close contact with the population every day therefore more exposed to infection.
Me and the Tommy Team thought it was a gesture needed to show our gratitude and solidarity with our police forces.
Schepici was looking forward to another season of racing in Britain before the pandemic struck but is still optimistic of some offshore racing later this summer.
