Round the Island race returns

John Moore on 14th May 2021

The United Kingdom Offshore Powerboat Racing Association (UKOPRA) have received water permissions to revive a classic offshore race around the Isle of Wight.

The Round the Island race will be held this September and will form part of a four day speed festival event which will be based in Yarmouth.

UKOPRA chairman, Kerry Bobin told me today:

While we are still looking at a difficult year ahead, we gave commitment to provide a series to our competitors and the addition of the Round the Island race will round off what is promising to be a spectacular year with the Cowes 60th anniversary event taking place too.

Unfortunately, we will be missing our international contingent for the first one or two races this year due to current travel restrictions and our thanks go to Barry Sales of COPC agreeing to organise this calendared championship race which goes some way to providing to all of our competitors wherever they come from.

The Round the Island race will take place on Friday September 24.
