Frode Sundsdal finally opened his 2017 racing account at Songevannet this weekend, after missing the Brodenbach International Ordinary race and the UIM F2 opening round in Lithuania last weekend.
Sundsdal’s EDH Racing team had experienced a shipping delay of Mercury parts various that had hampered their early season preparation and racing.
When the parts finally arrived, Team Engineer, David McCormick flew in from the US and got to work opening brown boxes and fitting the new goodies to Sundsdal’s Optimax motor.
The Songevannet F2 race was missing Tobias Munthe-Kaas, whose boat was still out of action after a first lap incident in Lithuania last week. Because the rules require a minimum of 5 boats to compete, this race did not have Norwegian National status.
A lady that competed and finished the World Championship race, Mette Brandt Bjerknæs, took her new found confidence and boat speed to the Norwegian venue and set the fastest time in qualifying and pole position in equal measure.
The event was run over 3 heats, Christian Carlsen got past Bjerknæs on the first and went on to win all three.
Bjerknæs, the brand ambassador for Bruvik Fine Timepieces took 3 second places whilst the older Sundsdal spent the weekend chasing a young lady.
Plus ça change.
