The powerboat racing community was shocked by the tragic news that 23-year-old Massimo Rossi suffered fatal head injuries during a German National O-350 race in Traben-Trarbach yesterday.
Rossi from San Bellino in Italy had captured World Championships in both the O-250 and O-350 classes this year.
After winning Heat 1 last weekend, Event organiser, ‘Sport Events Traben-Trarbach’ announced that Rossi lost his life whilst racing in Heat 2.
Silvia Borgonovi had known Rossi since the age of 12 when her father Giacomo took her to a local Italian race;
He was and will forever be a great champion.
I will always remember our friendship, Massimo was motivated, funny, always smiling and joking.
I often wondered where and how he got that energy from.
This photograph was taken in 2009 at an OSY 400 World Championship in Poland and it was the first time Massimo raced for a UIM International Title.
It didn’t go quite as well as expected, but I got to know him better and I’m very glad I did.
