Jenkins – ‘A new chapter in my career’

John Moore on 10th March 2021

Michael Jenkins has been a familiar figure in F1H2O working for the Qatar Team with Jay Price from 2002 – 2006 and then joining Sami Seliö for the 2007 season where the Finnish driver won his first world championship in the top flight.

Another UIM F1H2O World Championship would follow for Seliö and Jenkins’ Mad Croc team in 2010. Over the period of 2007 -2019 (with a brief break in 2017), Jenkins acted as Seliö’s engineer, radio man and team manager.

Jenkins who comes from Ostend in Belgium, has announced that he will be leaving Seliö’s Sharjah Team to work with other drivers this season.

Speaking from his home in Dunaújváros, Hungary, Jenkins told me:

In F2 I will be working with Edgaras Riabko and Rupp Temper who has a brand-new DAC for this season.

I am looking forward to the first race in Vila Velha de Ródão, where I thought the organisers did a great job of putting on two races during the pandemic last year.

The former factory racing engineer at OMC Belgium continued:

I will also be working with Nikita Lijcs with his ASV F4 boat and he really wants to win the UIM World Championship this season.

Hopefully, we can run his F2 ASV hull at Rouen in October with Edgaras and two other very experienced drivers, one from France.

Jenkins has further plans to work with the Hungarian based boat builder ASV into the 2022 season with Lijcs as the focus and he ended the call with:

A whole new chapter in my career is taking off!
