Gallagher Racing Mount Title Challenge

John Moore on 16th May 2018

The P1 SuperStock fleet returned to East Lake Toho on Saturday for the seventh successive staging of the Kissimmee St. Cloud Grand Prix.

The one-day event featured six races on a 2.3 mile course in the second round of the five-venue National Championship.

Gallagher Racing and GEICO Racing dominated the action as light rain and a strong wind produced choppy conditions. With veteran SuperStock driver Jason Morton in the cockpit, Gallagher recorded 3 victories and 3 second place finishes to take top spot on the podium and move within one point of leaders GEICO Racing in the championship standings.

Frank & Al’s Racing followed up their winning performance in Miami last month by ending the day in third place both in the Grand Prix and the overall standings. Race 5 saw them involved in a deck-to-deck battle with GEICO for second place, with Brian Maine and Tony Knight in GEICO finally winning out.

Speaking on the lakeside after the final race, P1 chief executive Azam Rangoonwala said:

We enjoyed some hugely competitive racing today and the battle for this year’s P1 SuperStock title is going to be a fierce one.
Partnering with the Smokin’ Boats, Brews and BBQ festival here in St. Cloud added to the atmosphere and talks are already underway to stage the P1 Kissimmee St. Cloud Grand Prix for an eighth time in 2019.

Jacksonville will host the third round of the championship on June 2.
