This weekend’s Grand Prix of Xiangyang will be the fourth round of the 2018 UIM F1 H2O World Championship and it has an early start (11:00 local time).
11 o’clock in the morning is early by a normal F1H2o timetable, where races are normally run in the afternoon, in Europe the time is unholy, (04:00 British Summer Time / 05:00 Central European Time).
The reason for it is down to Chinese television and viewing habits.
The race from the Han River will be shown live on Chinese television and to potentially reach the 1.4 billion population, the peak viewing time is before Sunday lunch.
As much as Social Media and the general internet are important, live television is still proving to be King for generating rights income and advertising revenue.
