UIM F4 – Manninen increases championship lead

Juho-Matti Manninen took a second UIM F4 World Championship win this season at Stewartby today. The defending World Champion started from pole and put in an assured shift on the British Lake. Britain’s Ben Morse impressed in qualifying, setting the second fastest time in the Q3 six boat shoot-out. However, it was all down hill from there, Morse finished 4th in the race and was subsequently excluded for a get together with a couple of buoys. Nikita Lijcs finished Round 3 as he did Round 2, second. Morgan Jernfast from Sweden took his first podium of the season with third. Ben Jelf, in his first season of UIM F4 competition, drove another mature race and a fifth place was reward for his drive, his father Colin finished 11th after struggling with handling. Sam Whittle’s 14th place was somewhat of a…

UIM F4 – Manninen Wins Round 2

2016 UIM F4 World Champion Juho-Matti Manninen was back to his best today in Imatra. Manninen started the race from pole position and cruised to a 2017 UIM F4 Second Round victory. Kalle Viippo, who won the first round yesterday, qualified sixth today, but the shock of the day came when he was disqualified after the race for breaching UIM rule 504.13. British interest centered around the ‘Ben’s’. Ben Morse had a far from ideal start, his Radio Man Matt Palfreyman told me after, ‘Ben drove a stormer!’ ‘He did really well to get past both Sebastian Haugaard and Ben Jelf’. ‘With more time, I’m sure he could have got by Magnus Sederholm’. Ben Jelf in only his second UIM F4 World Championship race impressed again. The 17 year old took a worthy 7th place. He now goes to Stewartby, a lake he…

UIM F4 – First Blood to Kalle Viippo

Kalle Viippo narrowly pipped fellow Fin Juho-Matti Manninen to win Round 1 of the 2017 UIM F4 World Championship in Imatra today. Latvia’s Nikita Lijcs held off Ben Jelf to take third position. Jelf, who celebrated his 17th birthday today, was the ‘class of the Brits’ with his 4th place. Sam Whittle took an early swim in the morning Free Practice session, his Powertech Marine team rallied to have his BaBa hull ready for qualifying and the driver rewarded them with 11th overall in the race. Ben Morse had an excellent qualification session, lapping at 00.50.68 to give him fifth place on the grid. However, a broken trim cable causing an intermittent fault between the wheel and dashboard forced a DNS. The boats will compete for Round 2 of the 2017 Championship tomorrow, qualifying starts at 12.30 BST and the race…

UIM F4 – Morse dashes to Finland

Ben Morse is taking a flight from London Gatwick to Finland this morning with his Radio Man, UIM F2 pilot Matt Palfreyman. The pair then have a 2 1/2 drive to Imatra and should just about be on time for UIM F4 Free Practice this evening. The close friends have teamed up for a tilt at the 2017 UIM F4 World Championship and Palfreyman told me from the airport this morning; We believe we are ready, Ben has had the best pre-season testing and races this year in Britain, giving us some vital information in regards to qualifying and race set up. I asked if they had worked out their tactics? There is a game plan for qualifying and the race in place and we are ready to execute it, we have a lot of experience both in the pits and…

They have been busy in the last few weeks testing and perfecting their set-up’s and we are told, will be welcoming a new guest driver to the Motor-Mix team this season. Fellow Fin Lauri Landen of Landen Racing took delivery of a Gen2 Molgaard hull in the winter and early testing results have indicated that he is most definitely on the pace. Tukka Lehtonnen has purchased a new BaBa hull from the Italian genius that is Massimo Roggiero. The 2016…

This week Ben Jelf and fellow Brits Ben Morse and Sam Whittle travel to Imatra, Finland for the opening round of the 2017 UIM F4 World Championships. Around 20 teams will compete for the first of 3 rounds in the 2017 campaign, the line-up also includes Finland’s Juho-Matti Manninen, the reigning UIM F4 World and European Champion. Jelf commented; The team have put a lot of effort into my World Championship challenge this year. There are top class racers in the fleet including Brit Ben Morse who claimed bronze at the European Championships last year and of course the defending Champion. In previous World Championships I have competed in, it’s been a competition run over one weekend with no room for error, the 2017 UIM F4 championship is a series of races over six individual days at different venues. John Donnelly will be overseeing Whittle’s…
