Selio takes F1H2o Portugal Pole

UIM F1H2o BRM Qualifying on the Arade River was rescheduled for Sunday morning in place of free practice and was split into two sessions for the second time in three weeks. Race officials arranged to run Q1 over 20 minutes to eliminate seven of the 19 boats and, after a 10-minute break, Q2 ran for 30 minutes to determine the top six for pole position points. Weather conditions were more favourable on the 1.937km course on Sunday and Chiappe made his intentions clear from the outset with an opening lap of 43.67 seconds in clear water conditions. That was sufficient to put the Frenchman into Q2. Carella and Al-Qamzi slotted into seventh and ninth places and survived the cut to progress to Q2. Mike Szymura, Jesper Forss, Christophe Larigot, Cédric Deguisne, Nadir Bin Hendi and Filip Roms were eliminated, but…

Strong winds and adverse tides forces UIM F1 H2o BRM Qualifying to be postponed until Sunday

Strong southerly winds and an outgoing tide made conditions too dangerous for UIM F1 H2o BRM qualifying in Portimão today. H2O Race officials made the decision to postpone the session until tomorrow morning for the second time in the space of three weeks. UIM safely commissioner Luis Ribeiro said, The conditions were getting worse with the wind and the effect of the flow of the river. This form of racing is a dangerous sport and safety in always of paramount importance. This was the obvious decision to take, because the forecast was not good and we were already running later than scheduled. Teams were permitted free practice on Saturday morning. Erik Stark of the Emirates Racing Team had been quickest in the practice session with a best lap of 44.58sec.

F1H2o – Grand Prix of Portugal – Portimão

Team Abu Dhabi’s Alex Carella delivered another sensational performance to claim a 12th career victory and a vital UIM F1 H20 World Championship success at the 20th Grand Prix of France on Evian’s Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) on Sunday afternoon. The Italian led from the start and managed to fend off a fierce challenge from Victory Team’s Shaun Torrente until lap 10, when the American hit the front. The Victory Team driver clouted a turn buoy soon afterwards and was forced to run a drive through penalty lap after the turn buoys had been secured. Carella duly regained the lead and Torrente regrouped to reach the chequered flag in third after passing Erik Stark with 11 laps to run. Carella’s victory by the margin of 11.72 seconds gives him an 11-point lead in the Drivers’ Championship after two rounds and…

Waves, strong winds and unsafe water conditions postpone F1 H2O Evian Qualifying

Team Abu Dhabi’s Alex Carella and Thani Al-Qamzi will have to wait until Sunday morning to get their challenge for honours underway in this year’s Grand Prix of France, the second round of the UIM F1 H2O World Championship, on Evian’s Lac Leman. Large waves strong winds and unsafe water conditions meant that Saturday morning’s practice session was shortened and then stopped and the decision was then taken to postpone the all-important BRM Qualifying session until Sunday. Victory Team’s Shaun Torrente scrambled just five laps around the 2.08km course to record the fastest lap of 1min 06.44sec before the session was stopped. No way today, the wave was too long, it was very hard to keep the boat straight. It looked flat, but there were big holes everywhere. It’s like roulette every lap and not possible to race. Said Team…
