P1 SuperStock Celebrates 2017 UK Champions

Mercedes-Benz World, on the famous Brooklands site in Weybridge, was the venue on Saturday evening for the Powerboat P1 annual awards dinner, with more than 150 racers, sponsors, partners and suppliers in attendance. After race events in Scandinavia, Scotland and Wales, it was Sam and Daisy Coleman in the Pertemps Network boat (pictured) who were crowned P1 SuperStock UK champions for the second successive year. Finishing just five points behind the Welsh brother and sister pairing was the Milford Waterfront team of Andrew Foster and Charles Morris, with Neil and Jason Jackson in third place for Experience Kissimmee. The Rookie of the Year award went to father and daughter Dave and Ashleigh Finlayson from Scotland in the Spirit of Inverclyde boat. Speaking after the awards presentations, P1 managing director Robert Wicks said: New television broadcast agreements, significant growth in social…

PREXIT for P1 SuperStock

Powerboat P1 have today confirmed that they will not be promoting or organising a Powerboat Racing Championship in Britain next year due to uncertainty with the current organisation. Their US campaign stays unchanged and they are looking for new international venues. Following OCRDA, IPRC and the BPRC who have severed their links with the British ‘National Governing Body’, the RYA, P1 have decided to concentrate on their AquaX and P1 Jetcross disciplines. P1 UK Managing Director, Robert Wicks said today: P1 SuperStock has enjoyed seven great years in the UK but our focus needs to switch to new markets as the business evolves. The ongoing uncertainty in offshore powerboat racing in the UK has also contributed to this decision. On the flip side, our Mumbai event introduced the sport to a huge new audience on the sub-continent and the nine hours of live…

P1 SuperStock 2017 : A world of racing

9 events on 3 continents 41 races 1 world team champion 2 national champions TV coverage in 154 countries 500th P1 race   It’s been another year of impressive numbers for P1 SuperStock racing, and these figures don’t include the hundreds of thousands of spectators who have enjoyed the high speed P1 action this year. Often maligned as a niche sport and for not being spectator friendly, powerboat racing has shown its true potential to attract and engage fans in diverse markets. Some people think it’s all over, but there’s still more to come as the P1 fleet in the United States prepares for the final round of the season at Islamorada in the Florida Keys next month when there will be five races over the weekend. The year began back in March when P1’s two national champions were joined…

Pertemps clinch UK title as Milford Waterfront win Welsh Grand Prix

The hometown boat won the final round of the season, the championship leaders sealed the UK title and a returning driver notched up a double on an action-packed weekend at the 2017 P1 Welsh Grand Prix of the Sea. Milford Haven’s debut weekend on the P1 calendar was awash with superb Welsh food, live music, smiling fans and great racing. An outstanding performance on Saturday gave Milford Waterfront a resounding event lead after winning all three races on day one and a real chance to take the overall UK SuperStock title. Their nearest rival at the end of Saturday’s racing was reigning champions Pertemps Network after they recorded three second-place finishes. While the local team were jubilant, both Arthur J Gallagher and Spirit of Inverclyde had their day end early following technical issues during the opening race. Arthur J Gallagher…

Pertemps and Arthur J Gallagher’s Scottish disqualification overturned

The decision to disqualify Pertemps Network and Arthur J Gallagher at the Scottish Grand Prix of the Sea has been overturned by a Royal Yachting Association jury due to a technicality and their points reinstated. Both teams were disqualified from the event after being found guilty of a technical infringement by RYA officials during the SuperStock meeting in Greenock on 25th June. Since the decision was made, Sam and Daisy Coleman of Pertemps successfully appealed the penalty. After a comprehensive review of the evidence and statements in relation to the matter in question, the assembled jury unanimously decided to uphold the protest based on the fact that the correct procedure had not been followed by the officials in a number of areas. These deviations from the meant that Sam and Daisy had not been party to a fair and transparent…

P1 SuperStock Scarborough annoucement

Powerboat P1 have issued the following announcement today. Unfortunately, due to significant financial concerns around the Scarborough event, P1 will not be going ahead with the SuperStock UK race weekend in Yorkshire at the beginning of September. We have visited Scarborough on two previous occasions and, although there has been some financial support at local level, sufficient institutional and commercial income for the 2017 event has simply not been forthcoming to offset the event costs. I am sure you can appreciate that it would not make commercial sense for us to run this – or any of our other events – at a significant loss. Whilst P1 has, at times, invested in new events, an event in its third year should be commercially viable. A loss-making event deprives the business of funds that can be better used for the development…

P1 Welsh Grand Prix

When it comes to hosting major sports events Wales punches well above its weight. When it comes to producing outstanding sportsmen and women it does just the same. And when it comes to marine motorsport the story is equally impressive. Ten leading Welsh powerboat racers and jet ski riders will be in action at Milford Haven this weekend flying the flag for the host country in the P1 SuperStock and AquaX UK Championships. Pride of place goes to the reigning P1 SuperStock UK and world champions. They are brother and sister pairing Sam and Daisy Coleman, who will have the shortest journey of all the competitors with just a short drive from Saundersfoot. The two teamed up last year in the Pertemps Network boat and finished in the top three at every round to land the UK title in impressive…

P1 return to Inverclyde this weekend

Powerboat and jet ski racing returns to the River Clyde this weekend in the latest leg of the P1 SuperStock and AquaX national race series. More than 30,000 spectators are expected to flock to Greenock Esplanade over the two days for the P1 Scottish Grand Prix of the Sea, which will deliver free entertainment both on and off the water in an event co-hosted by Inverclyde Council and Riverside Inverclyde and supported by EventScotland. Following a hugely successful first year in Greenock, the event will again transform the Esplanade into a buzz of activity celebrating marine motorsport and championing Inverclyde. The weekend of sport and family entertainment will include jet ski freestyle displays. The Esplanade will be transformed into a showcase featuring a programme of interactive activities celebrating the Year of History, Heritage & Archaeology, Scotland’s Food & Drink and…
