Bligh’s British BrandFuel challenge

The British BrandFuel ThunderCat Racing team of Bligh Julius and Charlie Hatfield are well into their close season training for a full out attack on the UIM P750 Pro Stock World Championship to be held at Cape Town, South Africa in March.

Fitness is a key element and Julius proudly told me that he has been venturing to his local gym in Lymington at least 3 times a week since the turn of the year coupled with a strict diet and a zero alcohol policy to ensure he will be a lean, mean, fighting machine by March.

Co-Driver Hatfield has been working out ‘on the job’, he has been competing around the World in another form of boat racing – Sailing.

Hatfield commented;

It’s a great way to keep up my fitness and mental discipline levels, I’m sure I’m fitter than Bligh at this stage and definitely still better looking!

When Hatfield is back home in England, he has been taking every opportunity to test the Tohatsu powered Aquarius hull with Julius.

A selection of propellers has been supplied for testing by team partner, Steel Developments.

Team Manager Glenn Julius was glowing in his praise of the company and their Managing Director based in London;

Dave Harwood’s props are simply the best! We are sure that he has come up with some very quick ‘weapons of choice’.

Julius speaking at a ‘Team Day’ at the Royal Lymington Yacht Club yesterday continued;

The final engine test proved fruitful, and it was great to see all of the teams sponsors gathered at the slipway in Lymington to wish the guys well.

Those sponsors included Dave Sheldon of Multispark Racing;

I jumped at the chance to support Bligh and Charlie in South Africa and I equally jumped at the chance to come down today, particularly as Glenn put his credit card behind the bar of the Royal Lymington!’

BrandFuel, a creative agency based in London have taken title sponsorship of the team with Turbo Services International and Solent Projects both looking to support the British title bid.

Both Julius and Hatfield have had marriage on their minds. Co-Driver Hatfield was first off the mark going up the aisle with Daisy in November of 2015 while Bligh and Christey tie the knot in August.

Glenn Julius commented on the racers getting older;

I guess this is a pinnacle tournament in their racing careers together, whilst they will no doubt continue to race together, their lives and priorities will inevitably change, so South Africa is the big one for them!
