John Moore on 11th May 2020

Powerboat P1 and the Offshore Powerboat Association have today confirmed that Sarasota and St. Clair will not feature on their 2020 offshore racing calendar due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Steve Brunner, President of Blue Water Racing Association in St. Clair stated:

Keeping the health and safety of spectators, participants, officials and our community is first and foremost in our planning efforts.

Bob Currier, Race Control Manager in St. Clair added:

This difficult decision follows guidance for the health and safety of our event from the CDC and Michigan’s Department of Health and Human Services.

We are looking forward to a vibrant 2021 season as the 4th race in the APBA Offshore National
Championship Series.

Lucy Nicandri, Executive Director of Suncoast Charities for Children, which is the local charity that has produced the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix Festival for 35 years added:

In an effort to protect the integrity of our race site and show respect to our sponsors, coupled with continued concerns surrounding managing proper social distancing and safety, we felt it would be in the best interest of everyone to postpone until next year.

Due to the health crisis, the 2020 APBA Offshore National Championship series is now down to three races.
