James Wright, the Judging Panel Chairman of the 2017 UIM Photographic Competition has today issued the following statement:
Although the quantity of entries in the 2017 UIM Photographic competition fell the standard once again was high as entries from right across the globe were submitted with photographers from Australia, South Africa, Europe, Scandinavia and the USA capturing the drama and excitement of UIM Powerboat competition.
Each entrant should be congratulated for their effort and it is refreshing to see the established photographers seeing some stiff competition from new entrants. All competition is enhanced by quality competitors and the UIM Photo competition is no different.
The same can be said for those racing in every UIM discipline, from Offshore XCAT to Formula1 circuit racing, P750,
Aquabike and Formula racing so let’s see those high standard entries coming in for the 2018 competition.
Having had the honour of judging a great many photographic competitions in many different fields, I have been fortunate to witness the development of many up and coming photographers and to see their improvement year on year is extremely exciting and positive.
In an increasingly visual world, images need to be special to stand out. They need to be strong, dramatic and tell a story. The old adage that ‘a picture paints one thousand words’ has never been more appropriate and the drama and spectacle of Powerboat racing provides the perfect platform for dramatic images.
I sincerely hope that we see an increased number of quality entries in 2018 and that competition for UIM Photograph of the year is fierce.
