Spanish Point Nationals Race Bermuda

John Moore on 30th June 2016

It was another race day with perfect weather conditions with inside seas 0-1 feet and slowly increasing. We moved our location and held the Spanish Point Nationals Race, sponsored by Spanish Point Boat Club and Freisenbruch Meyer with a course of 7.2 miles on Sunday 26 June 2016.

Eight boats were scheduled to race, five made it to the pit area with only three making it to the starting line. Five of the boats S122, D420,B177,B77 and A51 all had to withdraw due to mechanical issues.

Aaron Sims and Steven Bridges in their S20, a 28′ Skater powered by twin Mercury 300xs engines completed the course after a slow start as they had engine issues but came back strong.

Ryan Davidge and Andrew Osbourne had an excellent day in B16, powered by an Evinrude engine to take their class.

I decided that I would jump back into the co-pilots seat and raced in D4 piloted by Howard Ascento with top speed of 87.7mph winning the D Class.

The next race is scheduled for July 10th at Ferry Reach.
