UIM Class 3 B and C European Championship Day 1 round up

Swedish wins for the Bengtsson’s in Class 3 C with Fredrik Groth Fyrö and Lina Thorén taking the honours in Class 3B. One very pleased driver in Class 3B was Veronica Olderin. The 2015 UIM World Champion has had to put it mildly, a tough 2016 racing season which included turning over her Twister cat in Norway last month. She told me tonight; We needed a smooth race to get the right mindset and focus back, we are so happy with third place. I got thrown out of the boat during practice and the boat has been broken since that. The boat was in one piece yesterday for the first time and my dad came this morning and helped us with the last issues. I couldn’t have done it without him. The second and final heat will be raced for tomorrow. Class 3C…

Modin hits the G-spot

It was the perfect debut for Anton Modin’s brand new Phantom 19G hull at Nynäshamn today. Modin had only tested the hull briefly with co-driver Susanne Jansson before totally dominating heat 1 of the UIM Class 3A European Championship, winning with over a 2 1/2 minute lead. Remarkably, the hull was only ordered early last month after the Swede’s Tintorera hull delaminated during the World Championship’s held in Norway. Inge Lund and Leander Knutsen from Norway, steered their Ocke Mannerfelt built and designed bat boat to second with Rasmus Hamrén and Filip Eriksson driving their Hotshot 21′ to third. The second and final heat of the Championship will be held tomorrow. Photo: Pickla.se

Anders Söderlund, the Event Director has presided over the Event for the last 25 years and is looking forward to the racing; We have a good entry list, 9 boats in Class 3A, 7 boats in Class 3B and seven in Class 3C. There was disappointment from the Swedish organisers and competitors that 2016 UIM 3A World Champion Jack Bobin couldn’t make the journey to Nynäshamn. Bobin told me tonight; I would have loved to be there, although my Mercury 4Stroke engine…

Guernsey’s racing is postponed this weekend

Due to a particularly inclement weather forecast, the Guernsey Powerboat Association (GPA) have made the decision not to run any races this weekend. High spring tides and a potential strong offshore wind have forced the race committee to err on the side of caution. The GPA is now looking at rearranging the 2 rounds of the Stanley Gibbons Investment Race series for dates in early October. Photo: Martin Gray
