The Kent based Powerboat Racing Team this weekend (16/17 July) head back to Staffordshire for the Powerboat GP Chasewater Grand Prix. This weekend is the penultimate championship round for three of the classes the team compete in, so there is vital campaign points up for grabs as well as the Chasewater Grand Prix Crowns.

First back in action will be the Jelf junior racers of George Elmore and Jonathan Brewer in the GT15 class. George will be looking to make up for a poor round at Kingsbury which saw him take an early bath in the Saturday’s heat. Back racing on the Sunday George put in two strong performances which he’ll be looking to improve up on this weekend.

Jonathan will be searching for clean water during qualifying in a bid to steal pole position from rival Thomas Mantripp and local racer Harvey Smith. Knowing that pole could just give him the advantage he needs to knock Thomas from the podium top spot he dominated at the Kingsbury round.

Next up will be Ben Jelf who will be looking to make amends for a disastrous round two weeks ago that saw him disqualified from one of the heats. Ben will be looking to make a quick return to winning ways in search of his 12th British Championship title. Local girl racer Tiegen Goodfellow will once more make things extremely difficult for the teenage Jelf Racer but Ben’s ready to fight back.

Ben will also be back out competing in the F4 Catamaran class and following a third place finish at Kingsbury will be pushing himself even more in his new baba hull. Having got to grips with the new hull at Kingsbury Ben will be really looking to put both the boat and him through the paces at Chasewater in the build up to the British Sprint Championships in August.

Following a 6 week break Colin Jelf can’t wait to get back in his F2 Catamaran racing. At Kingsbury Colin took the teams 2nd F4 Catamaran out on water to compete for fun in the F4 Championship finishing 4th in the Grand Prix. But currently tied on points in the F2 British Championship Colin this weekend it will be back to business. With nothing separating the former World and British Champion from former British Champion Paul Balfour all eyes will be on these two as the lights go out for the first race of the weekend.

Pole position will be a vital in the Chasewater campaign with clean water to the first turn always providing an advantage in this tightly fought class so concentration will be key.

Team Manager Colin Jelf knows the team have a hard weekend ahead of them.

Kingsbury was a disappointing weekend for the team but we’ve put that behind us now and we’re looking forward to another busy weekend on and off the water. Claiming pole position in each class will be the first aim for all of us this weekend. A good start from pole and you can control the race. We’re still in contention for Championship Podium finishes for each racer this season but this weekend we’re just going to focus on the Chasewater Grand Prix crowns. We’re just taking it each event at a time and doing our best to secure silverware to reward our sponsors, team and supporters in the best way we know how.

The on water action will commence at 10.30 on both Saturday 16th and 17th July with competitors each competing during qualifying and then over three heats to claim the prestigious 2016 Chasewater GP crowns.
