Guernsey Powerboat Association affiliate to UKOPRA

John Moore on 23rd August 2018

After a meeting last night in Guernsey, the GPA (Guernsey Powerboat Association) have decided they will affiliate to the United Kingdom Offshore Powerboat Racing Association (UKOPRA) for next season.

The GPA plan to concentrate all their efforts on one UKOPRA event and may stage some other local races if there is enough interest.

Guernsey has always proven as a very popular Offshore Racing venue, the GPA last held an international event in 2014, hosting the UIM Class 3A and B World Championships.

In the 1980’s and early 90’s, the Channel Island was a Mecca for Offshore, the British Crown dependency successfully hosted huge events which encompassed the UIM Class 1 World Championship.

UKOPRA are currently working on their 2019 calendar, with 3 to 4 races expected to feature.
