The Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club and Team Abu Dhabi stole the limelight at the UIM’s glitzy Annual Awards ceremony at the Sporting Club in Monte-Carlo on Saturday evening.

While Shaun Torrente picked up the gold medal for winning the 2018 UIM F1 H2O World Championship, Rashed Al-Mulla won the UIM Freestyle gold medal and Torrente and Faleh Al-Mansoori were awarded the gold medal for their UIM XCAT World Championship success, there was a special award for His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Khalifa Al-Nahyan, advisor to the Head of State and chairman of the board of directors of the Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club (ADIMSC).

His Highness was the recipient of the prestigious Stefano Casiraghi Memorial Trophy, in special recognition of his services to the sport and overseeing the progress of Team Abu Dhabi into a major force in UIM sport.

The award was handed out in the presence of Albert II, Prince of Monaco, UIM President Raffaele Chiulli and many VIPs and distinguished guests.

Casiraghi was killed in an offshore powerboat racing event off the coast of Monaco, near Cap Ferrat, in October 1990 while defending his UIM Class 1 Offshore World Championship title.

Erik Stark and Thani Al-Qemzi received silver and bronze medals for finishing second and third in the UIM F1 H2O World Championship and there was a silver medal for Rashed Al-Qemzi for following up his 2017 UIM F2 World Championship title with second place in 2018.
