UIM F2 – Munthe-Kaas plans full season

Norwegian UIM F2 driver, Tobias Munthe-Kaas is planning a full season of racing this year.

That should come as very good news to his fans, after a spectacular barrel roll in Norway last year he feared he would have to curtail his racing due to lack of finance.

The 34 year old from Nesoddtangen told Powerboat Racing World today:

After Tønsberg last year we considered skipping the final part of the season due to economical reasons.
A group of sponsors and other companies then funded us for the rest of last year.

The financials look better for this year:

Most of my existing sponsors have signed up for 2018 and I have attracted some new support.
Hopefully there will be some more deals to reveal closer to the season opener in Kaunas.

Munthe-Kaas was certainly on the pace last year although mechanical issues and driving errors were a problem:

A spectacular barrel roll in Norway

Last year was a big step up for us.
We posted a lot of top 3 laps in almost all qualifications / practices in the UIM European and World Championship rounds.
Now I just need to improve my skills during the races.

We also had some issues with our engine last year.
During the winter together with our sponsors, we have invested in new stuff as well as spending a lot of time in the workshop to find even more speed.

He is now fully qualified to race in not only F2 but could race in UIM F1H2o this season if he was offered a seat:

A few weeks ago I got the stress EKG and medical examination approved and have applied for licenses in both UIM F1 and F2.

As well as racing Munthe-Kaas will be busy with promotion:

As I am a part of Strømøy Racing we are doing a lot of events during the season.
The Norwegian fair starts at Lillestrøm this coming week where we will be on our own 300 m2 display.
During the summer months we will be exhibiting at a lot of venues!

Turning his thoughts to the 2018 UIM F2 World Championship Munthe-Kaas is upbeat:

As far as I understand, over 40 F2 boats are registered for this season.
With the heavy funded teams like Victory and Abu Dhabi, the pressure on us is hard.
I am really pleased to see that drivers from the USA and Australia are coming to race with us – It’s makes for a real World Championship.

The driver has one final message:

We will do our best to kick asses from the start in Kaunas!

You can meet Tobias and the Strømøy Racing team at the Sjøen for Alle boat show – 14th to 18th of March.
